Overhaul of the installer: - Upgraded to WiX 3.5 - Requires .NET framework v4.0 - Installs on Windows XP SP3+ (including Windows 7) - Use C# custom action to install MOF file (previously used VB script). Allows for easier debugging Minor changes to source code: - Removed several unnecessary P/Invoke calls, replaced with .Net 4.0 calls. Changed base version to 1.5

I can't speak for those of the project members who are still with Microsoft, but for me (having been out of MSFT for a few years) this isn't a high priority, no. Sorry - if there's any project that will get a few hours of my spare time, it'll be CacheMyWork (which gets a lot more downloads and press attention than this app) or a microblogging client for Community Server (which I've been speculating about for a while).

The EFS Assistant package does not install on Windows 7. Also unclear if the ADM templates will work for Windows 7 .

Hi,

How can I tweak the running of EFSAssistant so that it doesn't starve my other processess when it runs? Alternatively, is there any way to schedule it to run say at 2:00am every day instead of during primetime hours? Thanks in advance.

Description:
This zip contains the corresponding code changes to enable installation on Windows 7. See patch 5894 for the updated installer.

* Updated the installer to allow installation on XP SP2+ or Vista+.
* Changed conditions for installing the admx/adml files to allow installation on Windows 7
* Changed the "Supported On" description in the policy files to indicate that Windows 7 is also supported.

The only think the install routine didnt do was to add the WMI information, which I did after the installation by typing "mofcomp EFSAssistantResults.mof" from the Windows\System32 folder.

Hi ejarosek. Did you manage to get this to work / resolve the issue??

Just to let you know that I had the same issue when trying to get EFS Assistant to run on Windows 7.

I managed to resolve it by typing "mofcomp EFSAssistantResults.mof" from the Windows\System32 folder.

This command basically adds the EFS Assistant namespace data into the WMI repository.

We have many customers who are 100% remote and have found when their encryption key is corrupt or their profile is corrupt, thus generating a new key they cannot access their files. Our field support have a file recovery certificate which allows for them to slave the drive locally and decrypt; however, when they are in the field there is nothing that can be done. Without putting the master key on the customers' machine to decrypt, is there anyway this can be resolved. Our IT Security group doesn't want to put the key on, decrypt and then remove.

I opened up the following work item regarding windows 7 support of EFS Assistant but have not heard about it. I'm assuming the binaries would run on Windows 7 though the msi package is checking for the particular OA version information and stops since Win7 does not equal XP or Vista.
